In relation to the development of the indicator “Treatment demand in relation to drug use” and of the National Public Information System in the field of drugs, as well as implementing the National Strategy to Combat Drugs, and of the obligations of Bulgaria to the European Information System, the National Focal Point for Drugs and Drug Addictions introduces a new Internet based electronic version of the National Monitoring Information System about treatment demand  in relation to drug use in Bulgaria (I-MIS). 

On 26th -27th  January  2009 at the Institute of Post-Graduate Qualification at the  University of National and World Economy a training seminar was held on topic: ”Development of a National Monitoring System of treatment demand in relation to drug use : using the Internet resources and work in the net.” 

Representatives of hospital and non-hospital groups and centers from Sofia, Plovdiv, Rousse, Varna, Pleven, Lovech, Bourgas, Veliko Turnovo, Vratsa, Gabrovo and Radnevo participated in it. The trainers of the seminar were Mr. Milen Vuchev, web-designer, program executer of I-MIS, Mr. Momtchil Vassilev, Director of the National Focal Point for Drugs and Drug Addictions, and Mr. Alexander Panayotov, coordinator for the development of I-MIS. The basic purpose of the seminar was the presentation of the new Internet based electronic version of I-MIS and the practical training of the participants to work with this system.

Expansion of the scope of the system with the inclusion of a greater number of hospital and non-hospital groups and centers has been planned till the end of 2009.  The prison medical services, the individual and group practices for the treatment of addictions, as well as day centers and therapeutic communities are also planned to be included in the system.
